Home / Backyard Composting Resources & Bins

Question: How are we able make a difference in the amount of waste each of us disposes of yearly?

Answer: Incorporate a home / backyard composting program as part of your daily / weekly routine at your residence.

Home CompostingStarting a home / backyard composting program can save you money. Why pay for two or more bags of refuse a week when you can be paying for one?  Why spend money transporting those leaves and yard waste to a facility that accepts them for free, or for a small fee?  Why pay for those expensive fertilizers to spread on your lawn and in your garden when you can use the compost you have made throughout the year?

There are multiple reasons to start a home / backyard composting program, it can save you money, less refuse goes to the local landfill, its produces an all natural fertilizer for your yard or garden.

You don’t need a science degree or a shed full of sophisticated equipment to make quality compost; all you need is some basic know-how, a pile of organic materials, and a little elbow grease.  Nature does the rest.

The word “compost” comes from the Latin meaning, “to put together.”  And this is quite literally what you do when you compost.  You put together the right amounts of yard waste, food scraps and other organic materials.  Then you help along the decomposition process, and eventually you’ve got valuable compost to use in your flowerbeds, gardens, lawns and anywhere else you’d use fertilizer or mulch.
