Members Spotlight

The Professional Recyclers of Pennsylvania values every one of our members and the experiences they bring with them to our organization. We all do awesome work throughout the year and much of it goes unnoticed by a lot of people. Sometimes we feel we are doing a thankless job and may feel underappreciated, you are not!

Although we meet each other at PROP and other events throughout the year it’s rare if we actually have a chance to learn about each other, our experiences, and the awesome work we do on a daily basis.

The PROP Membership Committee has started spotlighting our members on a bi-monthly basis. Every two months we will spotlight 1 or 2 of PROP’s members on this webpage as well as our News Views and Opportunities newsletter.

Title: Penn State University - Waste Reduction and Recycling Program Manager

Tell us about your PROP journey!

My PROP journey started even before I moved back to Pennsylvania from Iowa in 2022. Serving on the board of the Iowa Recycling Association for 4 years, I knew the value of a state recycling association and I wanted to continue to give my time to advance such also in Pennsylvania when I joined Penn State University. I attended my first PROP conference in July 2022 in Lancaster, PA and I knew right away that I belong to the PROP family and I immediately signed up to be a member.

What has PROP membership meant to you both personally and professionally?

Being a PROP member has been transformative both personally and professionally. On a personal level, it has been incredibly rewarding to engage with a community of passionate individuals across the state who share same commitment to sustainable waste management. Professionally, PROP has been an invaluable resource for staying updated on industry/legislative trends, enhancing my technical knowledge, and accessing training (CRP certification) that has directly influenced my career trajectory.

My participation in different committees - certification, legislative and recently being a board member has allowed me to deepened my connection to PROP’s mission and have given me opportunities to take on leadership roles, which have been interesting and exciting.

I wholeheartedly recommend PROP membership to others because it offers unparalleled opportunities for professional development and networking. The resources available, combined with the support of a passionate community, make it an essential platform for anyone serious about driving change in recycling and waste management. PROP has equipped me with the tools and connections to make a significant impact in my field, and I believe it can do the same for others.

Who inspires you in life?

Who inspires me in life is my late mom.  She managed to raise a family with integrity, instilling in me values of hard work, giving and compassion. Watching her persevere through life's challenges, supporting my dad through trying times with a positive attitude taught me resilience and the importance of gratitude. Her influence drives me to approach life and my goals with determination and to help others whenever I can.
